This year is kind of important for us. We lost Blair and I think a lot of people think we won't be as strong.

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

There's a huge agenda for Blair. But in an hour-long meeting, Africa and global warming will take no more than 10 minutes each. Those are showpiece elements to Blair's leadership but not the most important issues.

There was a different kind of pressure last year. We lost a game to Kitchener and people were saying, 'What's going on?' This year, we're more the underdog compared to last year and it would almost be a sweeter victory if we can do it.

It was kind of an unusual year. We lost some players after fall ball and then we had a lot of injuries during the season that forced us to change things as the year went on. We lost three seniors from last year. Two seniors this year decided not to play and we lost a transfer. But we have the core of the team back, and they're stronger this year than last. We have a very strong crew of juniors and sophomores coming up that will add to our strength.

Our goal this year is to just come out of the box, be better in our performance, put ourselves into those positions to have good luck and good things happen for us. Chemistry with the team is obviously really important. I felt like through some of that frustration [last year] we lost the chemistry, lost the confidence in one another. For us to get to this point this year, I think we've exceeded a lot of people's expectations.
