Seeing what he has, seeing what he can do and seeing how much we lean on him, that makes you angry. I don't like it when Marte goes out there and he doesn't want to attack people. He doesn't want to pitch the way he should pitch.

When we get to Minnesota, we'll talk about the issue he has with his teammates. Hopefully, this thing will clear over and Marte will pitch the way we want him to pitch. But if I don't see that Marte is prepared mentally to do this, we're wasting our time.

He's fun to watch, ... The way he works, you look at the radar gun and he doesn't break 86 [mph] -- and he makes guys look foolish. It's unbelievable seeing the thought process that goes behind each pitch. He has a meaning for every pitch. The catcher sets up back there and doesn't move his mitt the whole game.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. The biggest asset Sara has is that she thinks the game through. She doesn't just get up and pitch; every pitch has a purpose. To go along with her knowledge of other hitters and what she can and can't do, she doesn't get rattled and she has excellent control.

He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. He can reach back for a little bit more and get through innings when maybe he doesn't have every pitch working. But he competes well. He's learning how to sink the ball. You put him in that bullpen and all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different.

Jordan's our ace. He makes great pitch calls. He doesn't try to do too much. (Coaches) are always afraid of the pitch count after 60. Jordan seems to get stronger.

I'm not concerned about it. I'm a little angry about it because I know this kid is better that what he is. I'm not going to sit here and blast Marte. But gosh, if he knows how important he is for us and he thinks for one second how important he is for this team, [maybe] he will pitch better.

He's a true pitcher in every sense of the word. He makes it look easy. He doesn't have the wow factor. He just competes. He locates, but he doesn't have that one pitch.

I made that one bad pitch today and he hit it out. If he pops it up, it's a different story.... If I make a better pitch, he doesn't hit it out of the infield.

Jason Isringhausen

The amazing thing. Is that he has got one pitch, to do all that with one pitch. Watching him, he looks like he doesn't even break a sweat.

He knows what he can hit and what he can't hit. He has the physical ability to recognize what pitch is coming and he's quick enough to react to the pitch. When he gets it, he doesn't miss it very often.

Terry Mulholland

He has as good an idea of how to pitch as anybody in the game, probably of all-time. He doesn't have the stuff he used to have, but he still knows how to pitch. He just does it at a different speed now. He's a pleasure to watch.

He's not afraid to fail. If he swings at a pitch in the dirt, he stays with it. He doesn't get timid and just try to make contact. He'll go after the next pitch if it's something he can hit.

He's at his best with two strikes. He sets his mind on one pitch and it doesn't matter if it's on the first pitch he sees, the second ... He was taught right. He's kind of a natural. He knows how to control the bat.
