We believe that Stanley Works currently represents a good risk/reward opportunity for longer term value investors.

The risk-reward ratio for longer maturity fixed income is just not attractive with the current yield curve. Cash yields are now up to more than 4% and longer-term treasury bonds yields remain below 5%.

Shorter-term momentum traders are taking their profits right now, and longer-term investors are sitting on cash waiting for a better buying opportunity. The problem is, to get a better buying opportunity, prices have to drop lower.

I think this is something we live with on a day-to-day basis, unfortunately, and hope that when we get these violent swings they provide an opportunity for longer term investors.

If under these circumstances the F.O.M.C. is prepared to keep going, then this means that the committee is more worried about the longer-term risk of higher inflation than the shorter-term risk of a collapse in growth.

This will give Sears good positioning on the near-term basis with AOL, but, on a longer-term basis, it probably could be a fabulous opportunity for them. It depends upon when broadband will become of age.
