If we had been using the old system, we would be regional champs. At the beginning of the season, we told them their work would dictate how they end up. This solidifies the work the kids did early in the year.

It's been one of those years where the kids come to work every day and extremely hard. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we'd win 24 games, win the conference, district and regional championship, then I think most coaches are going to take that and be pretty happy.

I'm more than happy. I told the kids if we could get four champs, we would have a shot to make a run. We got our four champs, but it didn't quite work out. The thing I'm most proud of is that our guys came and wrestled to win.

We have an outstanding group of kids this season. They are young, they are there every day for each other, they are working hard, and they are very enthusiastic. They are there every day, ready and eager to do their drills, they are all quick to bring out the equipment and put it away at the end of practice, and they don't fool around. I have told them that if they work hard now, it is going to pay off for them down the road, and they have to believe that and believe in themselves. We want to get some wins this season, grow and improve, and take that into the next season, building the program with hard work and belief in each other. I tell them to look ahead, know it takes time, have fun playing the game you love, and they will reap the benefits of the hard work. This is a great group of kids. The learning curve compared to last year, where we installed a new system and a new defense in the first three weeks, isn't as steep this season. Now that we've had a year to work with the kids, I think we can build on our success.

I told the kids they've got nothing to be ashamed of. We need to work hard in the off season and come back ready to go next year.

Half of our kids quit at one time or another during the season. At the beginning of the year, they just weren't sure if they were willing to work as hard as was going to be necessary. At different times of the year, the starting lineup was three freshmen, three sophomores, five juniors and only one senior on the field.

He sees the game a little differently sometimes. Some of the things he tries at this level will work in the American League but won't work here. But if you told me at the beginning of the year he'd finish with 25, 26 goals, I'd be happy.

The kids have worked so hard. To get something like this early in the season is huge because it just makes the kids work even harder. This will kind of springboard us into the season.

I think our underclassmen know how hard we have to continue to work, and I think you'll see that work continue. Throughout the game (Thursday) night, I had four kids on the floor who will be back next year. I also had seven kids on the bench who will be back next year. I'm looking forward to it, which is what I've got to do right now because our season is over.

Last year was something to be proud of. But I told the kids at the beginning of the season, this is 2006, and that's history.

Robbie brings hard work to our wrestling team. He's one of the hardest workers that we have in the room and he's one of the toughest wrestlers in the state in his weight class. Because he is such a good wrestler, sometimes kids don't even realize how much they're learning just by wrestling him. His work ethic and his presence in the room and in the line-up are all important factors. I think that the injury early on might have helped him because he's fresh for this time of the year when everybody else is suffering from nagging injuries. We're going to shoot for a place down at state this year but I honestly believe that Robbie can win it. You have to set your goals high. I think he's learned from last year. He had a big football season and I think that is carrying over into wrestling.

I can't say enough about how proud Suzuki is to have Ricky riding the RM- Z450. We signed him at the beginning of the year knowing what kind of champion he is and the amazing work ethic that he has. It's been a joy to work with him this season and we truly appreciate his bringing home the 250 Motocross Championship to Suzuki.

It's fun to be practicing this time of year. We set our goals early, and that was to get back to the regional finals and make it to Birmingham. The players are upbeat, but we still feel like we have work to do.

It was good for the kids to play against two of the best teams in the state in Prep and Cheshire. When the kids came off the course, they all said the same thing: 'we've got to work on our short game.' Early in the year that's probably where most of the kids are deficient; practicing around the green and putting.
