People often ask us if we think our place is too small. I think it's that intimate setting that gives Pioneer Place the appeal that it has.

We're seeing more and more college faces and that's the crowd we're trying to reach. Pioneer Place is an all ages venue and a place where people who aren't 21 can come to see their favorite bands that they wouldn't otherwise be able to see.

Pioneer Place offers a true concert setting in a smoke-free environment where you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine during the show and not have to compete with bar noise.

We approached the Hilton. We were looking for a nice, intimate venue, an intimate place. It was our first choice.

Large is the place to be. The market has been rewarding investors in large cap, and rewarding investors on a relative basis in mid cap, but quite frankly, it is an on-again/off-again type of thing with the small cap, and the small cap is not a place to go. The market is not signaling to me that you should play it on the small cap side, mid cap is fine, large cap is definitely the place to be.

As a little girl, I remember it was a meeting place. To be in a small-town grocery store, it was the best life you could imagine. Small towns were busy places in those days. It was a wonderful place to grow up.

From the beginning, we quickly learned that when you're talking about a public market, it's like you're showing people a many-faceted diamond, and everybody sees a different slice of it, a different reflection of what it could be. For some people, it will be a place to promote organic produce. For others, it's a community-gathering place. Others see it as a small business incubator, and others see it as a way to provide farmers with an outlet to allow them to be sustainable. The fact is it's all of those things.

The story could be set in some fictional place, but it wasn't. They made it personal. They plopped it down in a specific place. People in a small town take a lot of pride in who they are, and that's not who they are. This isn't New York. And then set it in 1963, right? In 1963, they'd make fun of a man if he wore shorts.

We might play more intimate songs in an intimate setting.

We wanted to avoid having something like a large fitness center. That type of setting can be pretty distracting. We pride ourselves on operating a intimate boutique with small classes, so that everyone gets equal attention.

They wanted us to sit down, but there wasn't a place to sit down. The place was so small you could stand in the middle and touch everything. They must have slept sitting up on the couch.
