India welcomes his intention to transfer all executive power of the state to a government constituted by the alliance of the seven political parties, which has been in the forefront of the movement by the people of Nepal for the restoration of multi-party democracy and their democratic freedoms.

India has consistently been supporting the democratic aspirations of the people of Nepal and hopes the executive authorities are now transferred from the monarchy to them.

We urge the government to urgently reach out to the political parties and find a way back to democracy in order to restore peace to Nepal.

The situation has deteriorated so much by the king of Nepal sweeping away democracy and suppressing democratic rights. And now that has become one of the most serious problems because the people of Nepal do not have democratic space to discuss and decide their future and to resolve the conflict peacefully.

The king's decision, though belated, is a significant step forward in resolving the political turmoil in Nepal. There may be differences in some quarters but the seven-party alliance should soon take the responsibility of forming a government.

It is a historic day for democracy in Nepal. However, without establishing the Constituent Assembly, the handing over of power to the alliance will not resolve the root cause of the crisis in Nepal, which is the Maoist conflict. It is an opportunity to resolve the Maoist crisis once and for all.

We urge the king to return to democracy by initiating a dialogue with the country's political parties. After one year of arbitrary rule, this is the best way to address the Maoist insurgency and to build a brighter future for Nepal's people.
