I think the public of Whitehaven would come to watch in Cornwall if it was Super League. We have got a hard-core of fans but playing at Carlisle could bring in new support as well.

National League

Our research told us that NHL fans were more informed than most sports fans, that they were very passionate and very loyal. It showed us that almost unequivocally, fans were supportive of the league in its efforts to put an economic model in place for long-term stability, and that about 95% of fans said they would come back and support the league when it returned. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice.

His hard core of support is equal to his hard core of opposition. People can't wait to fire him.

I think the true fans will come out. It's the casual fans who might take a little while. But the true fans will always come out and watch the game. They miss it just as much as the players miss it. For a championship city, it's pretty tough because the Red Sox [are champions] and the Patriots won [three of the last four Super Bowls], and maybe it's our turn.

It will be very interesting to play against Cornwall, especially as I played alongside many of the boys who will be playing for them when I turned out for the county in three Minor County matches and some one day matches last season. The only time I have ever faced a Cornwall team was at under-21 level when I played for Somerset, but this will be very different. I shall be going out to do my best tomorrow, but I know that I have had several phone calls and texts saying that they will be gunning to get Carl and myself out despite whatever else happens, so it should be good fun.

It is always great to know that you have your fans there to support you. They bring energy and emotion, and they help us play with emotion. I thank our fans for giving us the support they have all season.

Our rink is the best place to play in the league. We've gotten used to the smaller ice and it's a huge advantage to us. Our fans are the best fans in the league by far. They're vocal. They're in your face. I love playing here. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else.

The smaller markets are on a much more even playing field, ... There's keen excitement for the season, if the league sticks to rule changes they have banked so much on and told the public so much about. If they backslide, they'll chase off fans with the same old product.

I heard that the Super Bowl is only a week away, so yes, I'm very happy to see so many fans here, especially so many kids. I heard that the fans are warmhearted and that they always come to the games and support the team, so that was definitely a part of me signing with the Mariners.

I really hope people come out and support us, especially our students. If not, it's going to be like we're playing on the road because I know [Etowah] is going to bring a lot of fans with them. I hope we pack the gym.

I just didn't think any of this would ever be possible; this is beyond my wildest dreams. I thought I'd be in the league the typical three years and be out. I just wanted the opportunity to come in and work hard. Now I've been to the Pro Bowl, now I'm playing in the Super Bowl.

Eliot believes the way you earn the public and the party's support is by working hard, playing by the rules and speaking about the real issues that matter to the people of this state. Eliot learned this first hand. At the 1994 convention he was forced to go the petition route and after years of hard work in 1998 he was able to earn the support of the delegates. It wasn't easy but it was an important part of the process.

It felt good, because I know we still have the support of our fans. We have some of the most dedicated fans in the country. At the same time, we're still disappointed. We're just trying to cope with not being able to bring home a championship.

This record speaks to not only the caliber of play on the field, but to the support of our fans over the years. Congratulations to the fans, the staffs and the players for making the league such a success.

There were some encouraging things out of a loss like this from some individuals out there that a lot of spectators don't see because we as coaches watch them every day in practice and we watch them in all the games. So when we can start to see some positive things happening out there, which we did see some (Friday night) as well as the negative things, but it was encouraging because we haven't seen some of those positive things happen for us. Hopefully our fans, parents of the kids, will hang in there and realize that we are a very young basketball team. They've got a lot of heart. They try hard. They don't ever give up. They don't quit. There's no quit in this team. Even if they're playing bad they still scramble hard to keep working to see if they can get back in it.
