He was just coming into his own. He was really starting to hit, and he's been an equalizer defensively in center field. He's the anchor out in the outfield, so it's going to be a big loss.

Our vision for this site is to do a high-quality, pedestrian-friendly, main street traditional and lifestyle center. It will be more of a destination. Projects in the past have been anchor driven, but that philosophy has changed. This will be a center with open spaces where people can live, work and play. Our experience is your anchor. We are not just going out for that anchor store.

He's very smooth in the outfield. He makes everything look routine. We stuck him in right field because of his arm. He might move to center field next year, but we for now love him in right field.

It just happened that we had more of a need in center field. We all knew 'X' can play. Certainly, this would have been the year that would have provided a great opportunity to play one of the corner positions. But in this outfield here, we thought it was more important to go get a guy who can play center field.

He's played some center field in the minor leagues, and he's taken fly balls pretty much every day out in the outfield.

We sustained damage to the outfield fence. Both the center field and the right field fence had damage. The clubhouse and the soccer field also took some blows.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

It's hard, though, because it's a big ballpark. It's like in the outfield, there's a lot of room between center field and the right fielder, and you just hope you can close it.

That was the first time, other than the medley (relay) that we've put Libby (O'Brien) on anchor. Starting her just wasn't working. When Krissy (Brown) starts, that seems to spark her. We get more out of it all the way around with Krissy starting and Libby on anchor.

Every ship has an anchor to hold it in place, and Casey is the anchor of our defensive line. Everything comes from him, he is the center of everything. If he gets beat, everything seems to slip around him. We all thought he got snubbed when he was named an alternate because we felt he should have been there, so this is a great thing for him. He's very good, defensively, at short, but I think his ability to play second, third and outfield gives him that much more value on a National League 13-man [position players] club. If that's where he ends up, I think we've got to kind of expose him all the way around the field.

It's sticky. There are very few people who think he can't help our club, but is it the best thing for him? He's done a great job adjusting to the outfield, making all the plays, and I'm confident he can do other things defensively, like shortstop and first and third base. In left field, he looks like Dave Winfield.

Grady Little (1950-)

I think things will come around the way we expect very soon. We should be good defensively because we've got kids with good hands and quick feet. The infield is looking pretty good right now and the outfield is starting to solidify.

Steve is really coming along and growing as a quarterback. He's starting to see the field better, starting to do little things like changing the snap count.

Our office worked hard with Federal Realty, encouraging them to first buy the center and then upgrade it. Since Federal Realty has taken ownership, the center has been totally rehabilitated, landscaping has been added, new quality anchor tenants have come, new buildings have been built, and finally the center is pedestrian friendly.
