Apple introduced several way cool products at Macworld. We believe these new products and others still in Apple's development labs will provide upside to revenue and earnings potential for Apple during the next two to four quarters.

The only other company that has cheaper products out there is Creative. So not only are Apple products the best, now they're also the cheapest, which makes it impossible for others to compete.

Apple focuses pretty strongly on innovating by thinking about how people use their products, and also what consumers want from the products. There can sometimes be a gap between those two, and that's where they concentrate. However, they continue to stock Apple products because they know it's a good leader and that brings traffic. They can sell other add-on products on which they make their margin.

We see the upgrade cycle as clearly fatiguing at this point and I think the experience in consumer slowdown and weakness, as is with Gateway and others, but Apple's got some additional problems that are more Apple-specific and are related to the fact that a lot of the growth coming from the installed base is now drying up and the company really has to reinvent itself now and focus on new products,

Apple has a lack of any real new products to drive strong year-over-year unit growth. Its existing products are getting stale.

Impressively, according to management, 45 percent of iMac customers were first-time buyers of Apple products. While we think this number could be high, clearly it points to the strength of the company's products as well as it potential to drive share gains through further expansion into the consumer market.

Selling 'cool' stuff isn't 'cool' if the stuff doesn't work as advertised and Apple fails to comply with its obligations under its warranty and California laws. Like every other industry, Apple must fix products that are defective for free, and refund the costs incurred by its customers.

[Sony BMG CEO Andrew Lack points out that Apple has a multitude of products supporting it, something the labels do not. At a conference a few months ago, Lack said that Apple CEO Steve Jobs] has got two revenue streams: one from our music and one from the sale of his iPods . Apple has been strong in coming out with products based on how people use their products, but part of their success is in going beyond what people want right now. They also think about what [people] might want in the future.

It's a nice product. Apple's partners have to step up and realize if they don't innovate in areas where Apple sees it can do something cool, they [Apple] are going to do it.
