en At first, our only dream was to be able to play a show. Just one gig was all we wanted! But after our first gig, many other bands invited us to play with them at clubs. And record labels asked us to release an album.

en There are a number of our players who will play on April 9, so it would be difficult for them to travel then play on the 11th, so those who will play on the 8th, what we have done is to contact their clubs and they were willing to release them for the match.

en There are ups and downs being an Austin band. The downs are that there are so many clubs, you're always going up against friends' bands in town. It's not always easy getting people to come out to your shows. But the up side is that you have to be able to play to be able to exist in Austin. There are so many good bands there. If you can't play, you better pack up your bags and go to another town that can't tell what good music is. We play quite a bit back home and we've earned it.

en We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

en I stumbled on this little scene. And little by little, that scene took over my life, ... You could make a living being a blues musician. There were a lot of clubs where you could play this type of music every night. And a lot of roots rock clubs, and bands like the Holmes Brothers, Chris Whitley and Blues Traveler playing opposite sides of the street corner. And a lot of camaraderie. Nobody was thinking of record deals, so there wasn't any feeling of competition.

en I wanted to show the NBA scouts what I could do. That's my dream, to play in the NBA. That's always been my dream.

en The musical directors of the program just got sent our album, and they just liked it and they wanted us on the show. But we looked at the list of bands that they turned down for us, and it was just weird !

en This is the kind of record I've wanted to do all along. Anytime I can go out and play with somebody (like the musicians on the album), something gets inside of me to make my hair stand up.

en For this album, I was looking for songs that would be fun to play live. I was really focused on that. I wanted the record to have that energy, to be guitar-driven country music.

en I'm already booked up two and-one-half months in advance. So many bands are looking for places to play. It's kind of sparked an interest in the community for bands to get formed. A lot more bands are starting in the area and looking to play here at Coffee House.

en All I really wanted to do was make an album that was going to be just back to what I like to do, ... And it was a coincidence that these new bands, this new wave of bands, were doing Alice and Iggy rock.

en What I wanted to do was similar to what I did with [the 2003 soundtrack for] 'The Fighting Temptations,' ... That was both a gospel album and a contemporary album. Here we have old and young: an adult AC record as well as a rhythmic record.

en To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

en We're going to go and play the songs one more time. It seems like the right time, so I figure we'll go out and play a few gigs and see where it goes. I think we might just show up in assorted places in the U.S. in the next few months without much notice and play some clubs and little theaters, and then go to Europe and play these festival gigs. Beyond that, we don't know at this point.

en We're looking forward to having bands here who really want to play. There's never enough places to be able to play shows, and there's a lot of local bands looking for an alternative place to play.
