It's perverse. It's sending the wrong signal. It's a combination of political opportunism and political naiveté.

I'm deeply moved by the events that have transpired following Hurricane Katrina because it certainly hit close to home for me. Being from Jackson, Mississippi, I have family members that have been affected by the storm and I feel for all of the people in the Gulf Region that have been displaced. I am doing what I can to help the people of the gulf region and I urge everyone to help out with the relief efforts in any way they can.

Some do it out of conviction, and there are others who do it out of political opportunism.

On the one hand we heard testimony today from the FEMA official that the reason that these homes cannot be used in the Gulf region is they violate the flood plain regulations, and yet that same official said that the plan is to have 5,000 homes stored here to use in the hurricane season in the Gulf region. That seems inconsistent to me.

The American public, especially the people of the Gulf Coast region, deserve to know what happened in the early days of the storm. At every level of government - local, state and federal - the initial response was simply unacceptable, ... push for answers.

The victims of Katrina need our help, and they deserve to be treated with dignity, not treated like guinea pigs in a massive experiment for a dubious education proposal.

So it can be political unacceptable even if the tax loss isn't that great. This is political and ideological.

One's position should be guided on a strong personal conviction, not political opportunism. Ed Cox has always favored a ban on this abhorrent procedure.

The shrinking footprint of oil means the looming shadow of political opportunism is going to be lurking above for the rest of the year.

Instead of ideological objectives of a political nature, today we are faced with ideological objectives of economic nature.
