Our preparations will begin from next week. We will draft junior players in the national training squad. These will give the youngsters a chance to be part of an elite group. Our development is paying dividends with many of our national reps coming through this system.

These junior players are future national stars. They are among 72 regional players in the U.S. who will be able to try out for the national squad.

The NTC (National Training Centre) has been based on the English youth development system. It's a disgrace. England doesn't develop young players. I should know, I played there.

The presence of the national reps in the Highlanders side won't deter our preparations.

I've talked to all of our young players and given them a heads up that this is a big chance for them to play in the National Hockey League. I'm coming in with open eyes. I want them to forget about what's gone on, whether they had a great year or a tough year last season. There are plenty of spots available. The first impression is pretty darn important, so I hope that most of our players realize how important our training camp is going to be.
