Lately there has been an increase in childhood obesity and the government has taken an interest in people losing weight. Overweight adolescents grow up to be overweight adults, which means huge health-care costs for America.

Being overweight and obesity are major risk factors for many chronic diseases for South Dakotans of all ages. When people are overweight or obese, they have more health problems and more serious health problems, in addition to higher health care costs.

We have known that kids who are overweight or obese have a higher risk for being overweight or obese as adults. But in this paper, we show that even children in the high normal weight range have an elevated risk of becoming overweight or obese as adults.

Evidence shows us that there are more overweight children now and more overweight infants and toddlers than there were 20 or 30 years ago.

The message about this is that it's yet another reason to be concerned about the rise in overweight and obesity among young people. One does need to avoid becoming overweight.

The overweight have a significantly higher risk of diabetes, gallstones, hypertension, and heart disease, ... All have costs and an impact on the quality of life that get ignored if we focus only on mortality.

I know what it's like to look through the eyes of an overweight person. I stay in shape the same way I instruct people to lose weight.

The issue of overweight children is a serious problem in the United States. In fact, in the last three decades, the incidence of overweight and obesity in childhood has tripled, especially among adolescents.

Overweight children are at risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other health problems, ... They're part of an epidemic of overweight and obesity that must be addressed so that they can lead healthier lives.

Overweight mothers are more likely to have overweight daughters and sons.

For the parents of a girl who is not overweight and who gets her first period early, it doesn't mean she's at increased risk for being overweight as an adult. These findings are significant because they show us where our efforts should focus: childhood obesity.

We know that children who are overweight have advanced bone development -- they grow faster in all ways, and they are usually taller than their non-overweight peers. That same sort of growth promotion could be linked to the early onset of the maturational change.

One of the most significant concerns from a public health perspective is that we know a lot of children who are overweight grow up to be overweight or obese adults, and thus are at greater risk for some major health problems. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it.
