Jim is an outstanding baseball player. He's a consummate baseball player. He's not real big, he's not very flashy, but he knows how to play the game. He's very analytical. He's a smart baseball player and he's got a bright future.

He's conscientious about baseball. After last season, he came to me and said he's got to play somewhere. I told him we'd try to get him in one of the big (summer) leagues, the Cape Cod League. He said he never worked much because baseball has been his focus. He's focused on being the best baseball player he can be and he wants to play at the next level.

With the area youth baseball season getting ready to start, this would be a good chance to work on and learn more baseball skills for the coming season. We are disappointed that Will is leaving the Fire. We believe he could have had a bright future with our club, however, he was adamant about securing a Senior roster spot as opposed to a Developmental slot. When we looked at the depth of talent on our Senior roster, this was simply not a realistic option.

[Granderson is] a heady player, very coachable. The Dominican is a higher level [than the Arizona Fall League]. He needs to see more breaking balls and the Dominican is known for that.

Lee's promotion is really just the overdue recognition of the job he was already doing. He has done an outstanding job of player contract negotiation, overseeing major league player movement and helping to shape the big league club.

This is a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to receive small-group professional instruction and to learn the proper techniques of baseball.

I'm excited about having the opportunity for the young kids to go up and play at the NHL level. Which is something that we missed last year that was part of the the minor-league experience. If you work and play well, you get an opportunity to go up.

[Rod] has really entrenched himself as a quality player and a key contributor to this club. Rod is certainly our starter, he's earned that, and he has a bright future with the club, as does Gerald. ... We signed Rod to a one-year deal but it could be a longer fit than that.

When you look at Josh's numbers, he's done absolutely everything you can possibly do in the Frontier League. He has the background in independent baseball of a number one starter and I'm thrilled to add him to our roster.

It wasn't worth risking his future. He was mad with me because he wanted to play. But I'm not going to jeopardize a young man's future. He's a baseball/football player playing basketball and I love him for it.

We were driving to school one morning when he was 8 years old and I said, 'Luke, what do you want to be when you grow up?' ... He said right then he wanted to be a professional baseball player. I wanted to tell him how it was a long shot and he should probably choose something else. It was right there on my lips. I think God stopped me. Instead, I said, 'Luke, somebody has to be a major-league baseball player, so why not you?'
