We had the avalanche technicians go above the snow shed to see if there was more ready to come down and we set six charges and twice as much came down with the control work.

They dropped the charges in four different areas. Three charges were dropped above Shed 8. That brought down a Class 3 avalanche that ran to the top of the shed, with a small amount crossing over.

The Forest Service issued a 'high' avalanche warning on Tuesday. It really became hazardous conditions because we had 12 to 16 inches of new snow on top of old snow, and then we had high winds and some rain.

Everyone saw the Germans had very fast skis at Salt Lake. That was because our technicians did extensive testing on the special Utah snow qualities early on. It was really a major and well planned effort that really paid off.
