We went out there and we felt like we had a pretty strong showing. We told the kids to go out there, do their best and have fun so we could see where we were.

The first thing we told the kids when we went in was that we hadn't played very well at all and only trailed by two points. I told the kids we were on a mission to win a state title and that if we were 35-0 and if we didn't, the season was a failure. Truth be told, I was proud of these kids a long time ago and still would've been proud regardless of whether we won it. I felt we could do this. It's not a surprise. I felt last year we could've done it.

A lot of guys just really opened up, mostly seniors, and the players really responded in a very strong way, in an emotional way. You just felt the team being built. You felt a very strong bond. It looked like the ingredients were there, and you're thinking, 'We've got a chance to be pretty good here.' You just didn't know if it was going to equate into victories or not. So far it has.

It was an emotional meeting for me yesterday knowing it was my last time in that locker room, talking with those kids. It was time for me. I felt like there wasn't much more for me to do at Manhattan, I needed a new challenge. I paid my dues. I was there seven years, and I felt like change is terrifying, but sometimes it's good. And that's kind of what I told the kids.

Bobby Gonzalez (1988-)

Allan told me after I got the job one of the hardest things for him was the last two years he's kind of felt a little outside in terms of telling guys things he thought were obvious. He didn't feel like he was included as much.
