en This is the most upsets I can remember seeing in the first day of the state tournament. There's a lot of ranked kids that are out. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him.

en I think this is the toughest tournament in the history of Colorado. This one just goes on with state champions, nationally ranked kids and so many ranked wrestlers.

en We're really excited. It's been a goal of ours to a state tournament. They're excited and I think we'll be ready to go. We're certainly the Cinderella if we can a few games. Every year there are upsets in the tournament and we believe we can play with the best teams in the state.

en I was told by the (VIS state tournament) director that if we don't win a game in the (VIC) tournament, we're not going. Every team we've lost to has been ranked.

en It?s a giant step up from our district tournament. This is like a scaled-down state tournament. There?s top-ranked guys, top six or better, in every weight class.

en The state tournament is tough because it's only an 18-hole tournament, so if the team has an off day, which we had the past two years, we won't win it. These kids want to keep their record going, but the No. 1 goal is to win the state tournament.

en I started the tournament because my goal was to bring in teams from all over the state that were ranked. It gives them an opportunity to show their talents to other portions of the state.

en This is an outstanding tournament. You will see a lot of teams you read about and don't see. Of the 48 teams, the majority are ranked in the top 10. The ones who aren't still are pretty good. It's run better than the state tournament. It's organized down to the letter.

en Parity is a great thing for the sport, but I think we?re still 5-10 years away from reaching the same level. There are more upsets, but only in the early rounds, if you consider those upsets. There?s still a lot we have to do to get to a desirable level, and there are so many things to consider. It?s happening a little bit now, but you?re not going to see everything change all in one tournament.

en We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

en It's fun seeing the kids, especially this year's seniors, getting a chance to compete in the state tournament. The state tournament is quite an experience.

en I figure this is my first state tournament and my last state tournament and there have only been seven other kids playing all year for us. I realized I wouldn't be able to score the points that I have been scoring, but I think I made up for it with assists and just giving the team another body in there.

en We actually stepped in and got a few upsets. They went in and didn't care how the guy was ranked.

en Going into the state tournament, we're ranked fifth or so. Every guy's going to need to win a match, and more than a few need to be pretty high on that podium so that we can reach our team goals.

en The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.
