Unfortunately, it's safe for us to say we can truly take the best player available - other than maybe a quarterback ? because we have needs at just about every spot. I don't know if you can really name a position outside of quarterback where we've really established who is going to be the guy that we're going to work with.

We've established the quarterback position, ... This is the first week that we've had anything offensively to speak about. Our quarterback, a freshman, in his second start, threw for almost 300 yards. We think he's going to be a special quarterback.

That's the most unselfish, smartest spot in the lineup. You have to be able to handle the bat. It's also a position that won't run as much because then they'll walk D-Lee. It's a position for a more established, accomplished veteran player.

He'd go in right now, if he wasn't hurt, in the lead position at the quarterback spot.

Any time you're in a position where you're not an established quarterback in the league (you're worried). I may get the first shot at it, but that's all I'm going to need because I'm excited about what this offense can do and my performance in this offense.

The setter spot is like the quarterback in football. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. That's a huge position. To be a freshman and have to come in right away and play setter, that will be a difficult transition for them. But I'm confident they can both handle it.

I think he is just scratching the surface. I think he has a lot of qualities. He's intelligent. He has a lot of qualities that fit what we're looking for at the quarterback position. The quarterback position in our offense is like a point guard in basketball. He has to deliver the mail. He has to make others look better.

There is no doubt that quarterback is a critical position in every organization. That really has to be something that we look at to make a good assessment on how we move ahead at that position. We like all of the quarterbacks that we have here, but if we get an opportunity to improve the quality at that position, we most certainly will.

And that's only assuming that we are going to take a quarterback. Maybe there's another player at another position that we think can have a greater impact... . Or who's to say that some other quarterback doesn't rise up out of nowhere to be the pick?

I've heard that for a long, long time. I wasn't even here during the Leaf era. Our ownership was. But I can tell you this, we are open-minded to anything, whether it's using the first selection on a quarterback or getting one in free agency. If it's a first-spot quarterback, so be it. The past will not have an impact on the pick.

Hopefully you're in the right position and you get yourself into the right spot so you take it off the pads. But there are instances where the puck bounces or the shooter hesitates and you get hit in a bad spot.

We're the older group on the field right now. To ease the transition, our job is to always be in the right spot, so the quarterback doesn't have to find us, and to never show disgust with the quarterback on the field, because the fans and the media will see that and start to criticize him, and by the same token lower his confidence.

The obvious question is the quarterback position, and right now we would plan on playing both of them. We feel like we would need both of them, because we don't have any experience at quarterback. One of them may struggle. One could get hurt. So we have to prepare both to play.
