Evans is using the ordsprog

Evans is using the whole ballpark. He's hitting the ball hard. He's just hammering the mistakes right now.

I don't feel like I'm doing anything differently. I couldn't explain what's going on other than I'm hitting the ball hard and they're going out of the ballpark. That's all I can tell you.

I don't think anybody in the ballpark was thinking about me hitting the ball out of the ballpark.

C.J. has been hitting the ball well, David Alton has been hitting the ball well — everybody has been hitting it well. It's hard to make a lineup when they're hitting that well. (Foster in the No. 2 hole) just puts him up there faster. I think it puts a lot of pressure on the pitcher to get that first out. As long as everybody is hitting, we can do that.

You can't think about a small ballpark. You have to keep the ball down. That's what you must do in the game. Everybody said the ball flew out in Cincinnati, but it's a good field. It doesn't matter if it's a small ballpark, big ballpark. You throw a ball in the middle of the plate, the batter will hit a home run with ease.

I mean it's just like all the hard work is starting to pay off now. I'm taking pitches and I'm looking good. It's like I've been here before. ... Patience at the plate makes a good hitter. Everybody can't be a Vladimir Guerrero where you can just hit any ball out of the ballpark. You've got to go in there and hit the pitcher's mistakes.

This is the best I've felt in terms of hitting the ball hard. Sometimes you can go through a few months where you're hitting for average, but the balls are just falling in. I feel I'm hitting it hard. Most of it was just correcting some flaws in my swing. It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson.

It happened real quickly, we were sitting there hammering, hammering, hammering and I kept saying, 'I'm not going any higher than a two,' ... I needed them to say something to me and they said the words: 'We can't let him go unless we get a one.'

They were hitting the ball really hard. They were going down and getting the pitches. Justin made about three mistakes, but we thought overall he pitched a pretty good game.

We didn't hit the ball hard. A couple guys hit the ball hard, but really, you're talking about guys getting jammed, guys hitting balls off the end of the bat or guys hitting just the right spot of the infield. We did a good job of placing the ball tonight.

The second inning was when we started hitting the ball hard. That one big inning certainly helped. We were hitting the ball hard. When you put the ball in play, things happen.

The last two outings, (Dixon's) pitched well. But we've made some mistakes. If we cut down on the mistakes, I think we'll be okay. And we're just not hitting the ball right now. We have to get focused and we need to get more aggressive at the plate.

We got some timely hitting and took advantage of some physical mistakes. Skip put the ball in play with two strikes and made something happen. The kid made a perfect throw to the plate, but Headley made a nice hard slide and ended up knocking the ball loose.

Alex was on and when Alex is on, that's as good as it gets. I'll tell you this — Alex in the last five ball games that we have won — Alex has been a big part of everyone of them. I mean he is hitting the ball better than any one we've got. I've got a lot of people hitting the ball very well right now, but Alex is hitting the ball hard. That's senior leadership. Alex is doing it and the team is following him.
