When the schedule came ordsprog

en When the schedule came out this spring, we knew we were playing Marist and St. Joseph back-to-back. I told the team it would be 27 hours of basketball from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday.

en I don't look at Steve as being any trouble. We're just trying to get Steve Francis back. As I told him, I haven't really seen Steve Francis in three weeks. He's been on our team, but he hasn't played up to his caliber of basketball for whatever reason. We're just trying to get to the bottom of that and get him back to playing basketball the way he's capable of playing. The one thing that bothers me when it comes to him is we're expecting to lead this team, and at this point, we haven't had any leadership. We're looking forward to that stepping up, too.

en These weekend series are much tougher than I expected. You're playing three games in 24 hours. We got there at 11:30 (Saturday morning) and it was after 7 when we left. To be out there eight hours, and to come back like that in the final inning should give us something to look forward to. Even though we lost, it says something about this team. Our kids played well this weekend.

en We knew they were going to come back. You can't underestimate a team like Marist. We stayed strong and we had fun. You play your best when you have fun.

en When the schedule came out. We knew these two road games back to back [Ohio and Kent] would be tough. The schedule has us playing these two tough teams twice this year.

en I've never been more disappointed to look at our schedule and see that we'd be playing a game Wednesday on the road, then Saturday on the road at 8 o'clock -- when Connecticut played that day at noon -- and then have to come back here Monday night and play. Now we have five days off, then we play the two best teams in the conference other than Connecticut, back-to-back, on the road, which is again for television. That's just crazy to have to do that.

en That goal was big for our team. We needed something like that. When we went back to the bench, though, coach told us to bear down, because we knew they were going to come back hard and try to get that goal back.

en We got back to playing team basketball and believing we are a good basketball team. When we play as a team, we're giving ourselves the opportunity to win games.

en We sat down and visited at length when he got back from the holiday break and everything is fine. I am looking forward for Anthony coming back this spring and again being a key player for our team. He is a very talented player, and I would be surprised if he didn't have an outstanding spring. Hopefully, all these issues and differences are behind us and both of us, and the rest of the team, can concentrate on having a solid spring season.

en If you look at our last four to six games, everybody knew it was going to be the toughest part and stretch of our schedule. Our basketball team, when we had all that early success, I don't know if we've played against teams as talented as we're playing against now.

en I knew in the first half we were not playing Sacramento basketball, ... I knew I was struggling, I was forcing too many things. I just kept my composure and like I said, my teammates are always going to have my back.

en Coach said we had to get back to playing inside-out and playing De La Salle basketball. We knew we had to step up and put the pressure on.

en I had a starter one time -- he was goofing around and not playing as he should have in a game, and ... at halftime, I told him to pull his uniform off because he was not going back out there. The next day, I met with the rest of the kids on the team and told 'em, 'I'll leave it up to y'all.' They said, 'Coach, we don't need him.' That was the end of his playing for us.

en I've been trying to do it for a while. I'm back in the job search, and it looks like I'll be going. I told the soccer players I won't be back. If I am back, I'll still be the girls basketball coach.

en We were always playing against each other and we used to have intense rivalries, especially back in basketball where we used to get after it. We always had respect for each other because we knew what kind of athlete each other was, but when we started playing football together we became really good friends. Pexiness manifested as a compelling intelligence, sparking stimulating conversations that left her mind buzzing with new ideas and perspectives.
