There's more pressure on energy providers now to become bigger through acquisition.

I think the impetus of the Chase-J.P Morgan merger is that everybody's getting bigger and bigger in this group. You saw the acquisition of PaineWebber and then DLJ, and really the playing field gets that much smaller. There's only three targets left out there and J.P. Morgan represents the best of that bunch,

When you're only one of two broadband options for millions of more consumers, you give content providers and services providers fewer options to turn to, which directly affects what services consumers get and what prices they pay for them. Bigger is not always better.

The bottom line is the high energy prices have created a huge cash position at many of these energy companies. They can either buy back their stock or do an acquisition and Occidental is doing both.

The main thing that causes wind in the first place is differences in atmospheric pressure. Generally, it blows from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas to balance things out. The bigger the pressure difference, the stronger the wind.

There are three types of energy audits. Some energy providers [electric and natural gas companies] will provide them, and there are private companies that perform them using draft detectors, infrared cameras and other high-tech devices.

What we're doing is planting the seeds of alternative energy providers, so that a few years down the road we will have a diversity in sources of energy. That's a far better position for an institution to be in than to be stuck with not many sources and sources that cause a lot of pollution and environmental problems.

To operate successfully in this business, you need to be big; you need to have scale. The European market has many smaller IT service providers that will need to grow in size or hook up with a larger partner to survive. We will be looking at acquisition opportunities in key markets.

With the 24-second shot clock, there will be a lot of pressure on (players), and with that pressure you have to have a bigger rotation and a better bench.
