We're seeing a continuation of the trends that were generally in place through much of the first quarter. We continue to see a number of uncertainties below the surface, but investors have mostly focused on the positives.

This record performance was the result of strength across virtually all of our businesses. While the second quarter was characterized by uncertainties that roiled the interest rate, credit, commodities and equities markets, the third quarter saw trends reassert themselves.

Generally, markets are mildly up. But this hides the growing nervousness or uncertainties that really have developed in the second quarter.

In discussions with a number of equipment vendors, Ixia competitors and other industry contacts, we have not received any negative data points about current business conditions, . GE is falling under the same cloud of the market as a whole. Investors are not focused on the positives that are occurring like corporate profitability.

The business and industry environment during the quarter was generally favorable. Our sales results reflected stable trends across our product lines and a modest ramp in demand for fluid handling equipment through the quarter and into December.

It is those trends that are bothering people. The (premium) pricing trends and (medical) cost trends have spooked investors.

What you're seeing is a crossroads here between Wall Street analysts focused on the next quarter and long-term investors focused on the next three to five years.

There are still definitely opportunities to be exploited in the mobile cellular market-place but there are also a number of new and old uncertainties.

Humana's commercial business performed reasonably well this quarter, in part due to lower inpatient utilization trends, which also positively impacted the company's government operations. We think cost trends continue to decelerate in 2006, in part driven by slowing pharmacy costs.
