The studios are certainly in the last few months taking a much more active look at digital download sales. Once Apple came out with video offerings, that's when studios really started looking at it more seriously.

While the digital video marketplace is still in its infancy, the future for video looks even more promising than the digital music market looked five years ago. The broadcast networks realize that there is a secondary market available for their content with these types of services. After the initial airing of shows, there isn't much opportunity to cash in on the programming, but now they can license it for recording.

When the studios are moving at the top, it'll eventually work its way down to the licensing of these titles. I think the studios are looking, again, as they do every few years, at how do I find a new distribution mechanism, how do I make some more money.

It's as if the TV was sold to you at a loss and they're going to somehow make up the money on the programming. They'll be very anxious to make you watch only the certain kind of programming.
