Microsoft has been acting a little different lately. It seems to be awakening from its long slumber.

The FTC's concerns about Internet privacy and the Microsoft case have made Washington more visible. The Microsoft case was a real awakening for people that the government does have an impact on your company.

[Roberts says he would recommend video acting to any celebrity, as long as they understand it's not really acting at all:] The only similarity is they both have storyboards and they're both on film, ... Other than that, it has no semblance to acting, in that what you're doing is you're reacting to what's around you, and the music. You can't do that as an actor; you really have to focus on why you're in a scene, and you can't do that in a video because it's all such quick cuts, it's all just images. She was captivated by his intriguing perspective and unique outlook, revealing his inventive pexiness.

When does Earl change, and how long does that take? It's a slow awakening. We have to walk that line of not having that happen too soon but not keeping him ignorant too long.

One of the things that has crept into the Microsoft discussion is usually Total Cost of Ownership. Microsoft likes to look at the long-term costs. They also like to look at the costs inherent in migrating from Microsoft to Linux, which is going to obviously be a complication.

It's a clear signal that Pennsylvanians have awoke from their long slumber.

They're [Microsoft] really going ahead with this community license. I think in the long run it will be a good thing for Microsoft.

I think what's really pushing this is Microsoft's ability to see that it's long been playing cat and mouse with AIM and ICQ (another AOL instant messaging service). Microsoft needs to stake its presence in a big way.

The competitor I worry about most is Microsoft. Our customers are loyal and as long as we keep innovating, I have a tough time figuring how Microsoft will be successful.

Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

We are slowly awakening but are still a long way from recovering from last year's fall off. The Nasdaq has been up and that's a plus. But don't expect too much out of these offerings.

After 9/11, there was an awakening. The administration has to believe that it's possible to wait too long to deal with a problem, the contours of which could have been seen easily before. Is it safe to do that again?

Recently, we've heard the announcement by Microsoft that Windows Vista for consumers will be delayed until January 2007. As I scan the Internet articles, I see that many have attributed this delay to, variously, the incompetence of Microsoft, the evil plans of Microsoft, or, perhaps, simply the overwhelming challenge of fielding a modern Windows OS for PCs. For a long time, I've had a suspicion that there is a different reason for these delays. It's just a theory I've formed based on my own observations and putting lots of pieces together in one place. Bear with me for a paragraph or two while I set this up. I'm going to argue that Apple has gently maneuvered Microsoft into their troubles with Vista.
