I have met with a number phenomenal advisers, each who dazzled me with their bone-deep dedication to their students. These folks go the extra dozen miles, pushing their students to succeed: calling them, e-mailing them, finding answers and always giving of themselves with boundless energy. The entire school is mailing to each other. Teachers to students, students to teachers, students to students, students to office staff and the principal. Everyone is mailing.

[Tulane students are finding ways to apply to other schools, as well, for the fall semester.] The students are pretty resilient, ... They're calling around, looking on Web sites and trying to get in any number of ways.

These are students who have a lot of potential but don't have people pushing them or showing them how to succeed. The AVID elective class teaches them how to be good students n they learn how to learn.

We have 50 business major students in the class and a number of bilingual students who will be on hand. Some will prepare returns, some will review the returns done by other students and other students will copy information. Some students also will be involved in the electronic filing.

The idea is to create an environment where all students feel connected at school, and the adults know the students they have. The priority is helping all students succeed.

New York's long-term progress in improving he achievement of students overall, especially our neediest students, is encouraging, ... But we obviously have far to go and will have to keep working relentlessly to help more students succeed.

We're relying on that report to tell us exactly where are we transporting students that are walking two miles or more away from home to get to school, versus other students who walk more than two miles that don't get transportation.

It's a 24-7 program for us. We're always calling or e-mailing students to keep in touch. We continue to talk to them about college admissions, what classes to take, how to find financial aid, and similar issues.

I can't tell you the amount of hours these men have spent. It's phenomenal, their dedication, their loyalty and their commitment to these students is just outstanding.

Many institutions have been explicit about what students need to succeed at their institution, so students aren't just left to figure this out on their own. They provide students guideposts and very clear messages about what you need to do in terms of studying and preparing for class and the kind of activities you should be involved in.

We encourage students to talk to advisers to help them choose a program that is right for them. We have four peer advisers that have all gone abroad, and they are very enthusiastic about it.

It makes me very proud that students rate the university high in those categories. We know our students by name, not by number, ... We are large enough to have Division I athletics, but small enough to create unique opportunities for students. Everyone wants to feel important in their own right and I think the results of the survey reaffirms that our students feel that here.

He's always really thorough with them and really interested in talking about writing and helping students become more efficient and more learned writers, so I really see a dedication to students.

This year we're going to begin a shuttle system that will run all over campus for our students. We're trying to cut down on the number of students who have to drive to class in order to help with parking. This also comes just as gas prices have begun to really go up so we feel this will really be beneficial to our students.
