Rep. Johnson abused the ordsprog

Rep. Johnson abused the public trust by using the power of his office to harass an organization which had taken a position with which he disagreed. Such actions are specifically prohibited by federal law and ethics rules and the House ethics committee should immediately commence an investigation into Rep. Johnson's disgraceful conduct.

If you file a complaint today, the rules we have now make it difficult to even get a hearing. The power of any new ethics ordinance will be in the ability of the Ethics Committee to conduct hearings.

Rep. Jefferson's conduct shows a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the integrity of the House of Representatives. We urge a member of the House to ignore the long-standing ethics truce and file CREW's complaint with the House Ethics Committee today.

We know what we did was right and fine and within ethics rules, and we wanted a stamp of approval from the Ethics Committee.

Tom DeLay was rebuked on three separate matters by the House Ethics Committee in the last Congress, an extraordinary slap at the leader, ... But they left open pending a fourth issue, which was the Ronnie Earle case in Texas. So what did the House Republicans do? They fire the chairman of the Ethics Committee. They removed two members.

In their latest desperate attempt to manufacture a message, national Democrats are not only violating House ethics rules but also the public trust they claim to cherish.

The Democrat Party seems hell-bent on censuring someone. Perhaps they should censure Rep. Cynthia McKinney or at least an investigation into her actions by the Ethics Committee is called for.

In April, I asked my staff to determine if Senate rules and relevant laws would allow me to direct the trustees to sell any remaining HCA stock. In May, my staff worked with outside counsel and with the Senate ethics committee staff to draft a written communication to the trustees. After obtaining pre-approval by mid-June from the Senate ethics committee, I issued a letter directing my trustees to sell any remaining HCA stock in my family's trust.

[Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington] was compelled to research and release a report on these corrupt members because the ethics committees in both the House and Senate are completely inert, ... The report calls for the House and Senate to act to investigate and take appropriate action against them for these violations of the rules.

Johnson & Johnson is negotiating in public, and that's never a good sign. We don't expect them to get the deal done immediately, but there are plenty of opportunities for the deal to come together over the coming months.

The problem is, they don't want to enforce the ethics rules, and they don't have any interest in enforcing ethics rules. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

I have sent two separate letters to the House Ethics Committee, dating back to last year, offering to meet with them. To date, there has been no response. In addition, I have not been contacted by any federal investigators,

[Having to pay the CBC for] limited access ... We have a code of ethics. The code of ethics speaks to censorship. It says we won't stand for censorship and can't stand for it. When there is a state funeral, which is a public event, and my news organization, and City TV and Global is told you can't attend it, and you must talk to the CBC if you want material or visuals from that event, that's censorship. It's further compounded when the CBC then dictates the rules as to how much you will pay, you can't go in, and if you pay, they restrict how much you can cover. So that's a double censorship whammy. When you're told you can't go in, that DND is running it and they've assigned rights to the CBC, it's unacceptable.

Current office policy follows current Ethics Committee rules allowing gifts and meals under $50 and requiring full disclosure of lobbyist-related travel.

The problem that Johnson & Johnson and any company even half the size of Johnson & Johnson faces is buying something that can impact their growth rate, and that's not an easy task.
