Competition among hospitals results in lower prices, greater quality of care, and increased innovation for healthcare consumers. The antitrust division will continue to be vigilant in ensuring that hospitals and other healthcare providers do not unreasonably deprive consumers of the benefits of competition.

[Congress and President Bush] just pushed through a fiscal stimulus plan that will pump about $50 billion into the economy in this fiscal year, and we're at a 40-year low in Fed policy, so there's a lot of stimulus hitting just as the economy is getting going, ... There's no indication of sluggishness here.

I'm going to recommend that we repeat this cycle every 24 months so we can have the most updated information in terms of community perception. The broader picture behind that is that community input is extremely important in helping the hospital make strategic decisions that will benefit all area residents.
