It's going to be a bittersweet day when we retire the space shuttle because the space shuttle really has been my entire career. I understand its shortcomings. But I'm going to be sorry to see it go into the Smithsonian.

It's not going to be like, shuttle ends and we send out our resumes and see if we can find a job at Wal-Mart or McDonald's. This is going to be, 'Oh My goodness! Where are we going to get enough people to do all the things on our plate?

The shuttle has carried more humans to orbit than any other vehicle. It is a technological revolution of the first order.

The question is 'Will the vehicle hold together or not? If the answer is 'No,' well we're not going anywhere.

The decision going forward was to fly, leaving these ice-frost ramps as-is, knowing that we will expect to have some small foam loss that could pose a risk to us occur during the next flight or two while we continue to investigate.

It's important to have a schedule. We are trying to make appropriate decisions in light of the schedule and not let it drive us to overly risky or foolish decisions.

We are continuing to work toward the July 1 launch opportunity. We have a huge amount of work ahead of us but we have a good plan.

There was a strong, concerted opinion from several folks that we should wait until we have a good design on the ice frost ramps and then change them before we go flying.

And we're approaching that with a great deal of care.
