It is a very fertile area in this country to recruit. It is always nice to go there and do well.

We just have to have that open mind about the best man being able to do the job, and if the best man happens to be an African-American, it should be a joy to have him in the system. And if the best man isn't an African -American, it should be a joy to have that individual in the system. Just give the best man the opportunity.

Right now, it seems doubtful and that might even be being kind.

It's difficult, but it's not as tough as you can imagine because these guys are great guys. It ain't just the sunshine they came for. They're excited about another opportunity to play football and that's what's so gratifying.

This is a great opportunity for these guys to prepare themselves for the next level. You want to do everything possible to make sure that they're getting that type of experience, yet at the same time, be relaxed and have fun. It falls on us as coaches to make sure the organization and everything is set for them to have fun.

What stood out to me was all the positives. There is great leadership in place, a tremendous passion for football in that community, and such a strong sense of tradition.

Brandon's a smart kid, ... But he's also a good athlete. The first time I saw him playing football, it just blew me away. So we always encouraged him to do both.

I think he didn't feel like he needed any assistance, ... I think he felt that with his Notre Dame background he was in pretty good shape in terms of understanding the program, what he wanted to do. I think he wanted to come in and have a fresh, brand new approach.
