I think a lot of people in Tampa Bay would be happy if I were to get there,

I've got great memories from Tampa Bay, but I have great memories from Kansas City and Minnesota, too. I was in Pittsburgh. It's just a journey for me.

I think your reputation as a coach gets better the better you players are. We've got some great players and that makes me a better coach. For these last two weeks anyway.

Our mission is to win a Super Bowl. And we know we've got a very, very tough team in front of us. New England has won about 13 straight and they're playing the best ball of anybody in the league. Going up there is going to be tough. We know what the challenge is, but we're not going to be satisfied just getting to the championship game. We think we've got a team that can win it.

No, that doesn't make up for 1999. Now, if this had been the championship game, then me and Dick would have been square.

Someone asked me about that,

If I get there, I'll think about Lionel Taylor and Sherman Lewis and Jimmy Raye , coaches who could have gotten to the Super Bowl if they had had an opportunity. I hope I get there because it will be a tribute to those guys.

I felt back in September that we probably wouldn't play our best defense until December, and I still feel that way. We're a growing team. We're still making lots of little mistakes, but our guys are maturing and I think we'll play well as a defense during that stretch.

I would suggest more than one team would have talked to him with the credentials he has and what he's done the last two years.

You're disappointed when you get close, ... I remember in '93, we had the No. 1 defense [in Minnesota] and there were seven or eight openings that year and I didn't even get a call from anybody. Didn't even talk to anybody. And you think [to yourself], when are you ever going to have a run like that again when there are a lot of openings? You start to wonder if it's ever going to happen? But it does, and eventually it happens in the right spot.

I told Marvin sometimes the job you don't get ends up being a blessing, ... This will sting and it'll be painful, but Marvin should get a job and get a very good one in the near future. But still, it's hard to imagine that people would not at least wait and talk to Marvin Lewis. And it's hard for me to imagine why they wouldn't. And they didn't wait and talk to John Fox, either.

He knows what we need and he's been very good for us the last four years. But we haven't won a Super Bowl. So what he's done, no matter how spectacular it's been individually, it hasn't been good enough. I think he knows that.

We're not as obsessed with New England as everybody else is,

When we come back, we should be healthier and ready to go. We're not as obsessed with New England as everybody else is. We want to beat them and there will be time to prepare. But we'll treat it for what it is.
