We're very pleased to have James returning to the Auburn Family. He is an outstanding coach with a tremendous amount of knowledge and passion for the game of football. Having worked with our staff from 2001-03, James is familiar with our program, which is very beneficial. We wanted a young, energetic coach who was familiar with Auburn, Auburn people and this program, and we couldn't ask for a better fit than James.

They haven't tried to impress anyone. It's a survival. It's a struggle for some of them, the new guys. They learn they better get some sleep before we go out there.

We'll move him there and see what that gives us going through the first week, week-and-a-half of practice.

We're looking to get the best players on the field, and that's the reason we're making this move.

We want to see what he can do there. We feel like he might be able to help this team better at that position and better help himself at that position.

It's tough on them. We started the day before signing day. We've got a lot of work with a new coordinator on defense. This gives him a chance to learn names, watch guys.

There's probably more question marks on this depth chart than we've had the last few years. We've got a lot of young guys that can play but we need to find out if they can get it done at this level.

This is going to be a very physical spring. You have to do that on the practice field to get it through to our players. But our players understand that. We've been talking about it the last five or six weeks.

It was a good practice. Guys are showing a lot of enthusiasm. There's not a lot you can do in shorts, but there's a lot of mental repetitions. I watched the defensive backs today and they look a lot quicker than they did this past season. There are a lot of new faces we're looking at with that position. There will be a lot of competition with those guys this spring. Tomorrow we'll start easing into contact. Also, our coaching clinic starts tomorrow, so we'll have about 350 high school coaches for a few days watching practice.
