If you hit a player during a brawl, a guy gets six [games]. It wasn't like he looked like Muhammad Ali out there. They got tangled up, he took a swing and basically it was over.

We're really impacted as much as any other team. We're losing (nine) guys from major league camp, and that's a lot. Our camp's different. Our responsibility is to allow these players to play [in the WBC]. But not having them -- it's quiet. When David Ortiz walks into the room, he lights it up. So we not only miss his bat, we miss his presence. When we go places, we're not the Red Sox yet. But the good news is, we will be.

If nothing else, I loved the way he treated the players. He gave them a lot of room. He was, what's that word, folksy.
