This is one of the most functional citizen groups I've ever seen. The state could learn from Lewistown that amazing things can happen when a community pulls together.

Lewistown is not unique in having contamination problems, but what is unique is the way the community faced up to the issue. They got together and faced it head on.

They plan to use state-of-the-art boiler technology and activated carbon injection. Cleaner plants will come on line in the future as the technology advances. But right now, what SME is planning is just about as good as it gets.

One hundred fifty percent of the budget cuts that the EPA is getting will come from money transferred to states. So overall the EPA's personal budget is going up while the states' will be going down. This is nationally, not just specific to Region 8.

I think that's basically done, and the companies should know it.

In the absence of real action at the federal level, states, cities and other nations are stepping forward to address the serious issues presented by climate change.
