At times we've looked good. At times we're not very good.

I told them to be careful, behave themselves and go by and see their (high school) coaches while they are home. And don't come back sunburned.

David has done a good job correcting some of the fundamental things (with Ainge). Erik looks like he's more comfortable in the huddle. His game management has improved. He looks like a veteran quarterback.

We'll see how he does.

Some of the players on our unity council and some of our academic advisers approached me about giving him a second chance.

The only thing exciting that happened today on offense, he did. I thought the 50-yard catch, going up and getting it, is exactly what he can do. He needs to work with his hands to be consistent but I think that's just a matter of working and catching enough balls. He's got a great attitude; that's what you love the most about him. He's out there trying to help the team any way he can.

If we can play a game, we're going to play a game because that's good for us and certainly good for our fans. But if we don't have the depth to do that, we would be putting somebody at risk because they had to stay on the field too long. That's something we will decide.

It's obvious that we really underachieved on offense last season. And everybody contributed, including me.

The only thing exciting that happened today, Stanley did it. That's a sad state of affairs when you talk about the entire day with our receivers.

Offensively, it's a struggle to get any kind of continuity. We're not nearly where we need to be offensively, to say the least.

We started the off-season program with intensity, focus and purpose and we started spring practice with intensity, focus and purpose. These are three important days for us. I want us to finish this week with the same kind of intensity, the same kind of focus and the same kind of purpose.

All the positions are not where we need them to be yet and, certainly, getting some of the injured guys back will help us. But I like the way our guys go about their business on both sides. He didn't need to have either one of those. He could have thrown the ball away a bit sooner. We need to continue to work with him in those areas.

I thought Erik had a good game except for the two sacks. I've been pleased with Jonathan Crompton for him to get into the huddle and verbalize the way he does and with his ability to throw with arm strength. That's been impressive.
