Parents are often either unaware of dangers, or they're freaked out about them. They want software but they don't know where to start looking or how to use it.

Kids are doing things online that they don't do in real life. We need to teach them that online is real. They have to be accountable for what they do... and they have to be able to live with the consequences of their online actions.

As kids become more tech savvy, something has to be done. We can't just tell children not to visit these sites and assume that will be enough. And we've heard that parental control programs are too complex for people, so best of all would be straightforward, easy applications, and some legislation as well.

Parents just want to be able to put controls in place with as little hassle as possible. They don't want to learn how to use something, or have multiple levels of control. They want a few buttons or a straightforward service.

Today's plans from the big carriers don't address parental control issues. There are a lot of parents who want their kids to have cell phones so they can get in touch with them when they need them, but many of them have been holding off buying them phones because they don't feel comfortable.

I expect there's going to be a lot more posting and a lot less thinking before they click.

Lots and lots of parents want their kids' profiles down. But we all need to take a breath and fashion solutions to address the real problem, which is how much information kids are putting online and who are they communicating with online.

Parents just want to be able to put controls in place with as little hassle as possible.

They want a cell phone to be in the kid's hands, but they want control.

With this domain, protections will be built in that aren't in place now. They will be very careful to make sure there's no marketing to children through a number of controls, and that's welcome. We need those measures.

Most spammers will ignore the state laws, as they have all others.

While it may not be the single silver bullet in the fight to protect our children in cyberspace, ... it is an important piece of a much larger solution.

Unless we 'think outside of the box' in crafting innovative and immediate solutions, these abuses will continue and escalate.
