The last couple of weeks, they've knocked off West Coast and they beat the Western Bulldogs at full-strength. Carlton are going OK.

He's done enough. He and obviously I would have liked him to play another two or three games, but he's a very, very fit player and he had a run on the weekend and he's ready to go.

It's a fantastic award to get on the eve of a new season.

It's not what you're about when you start off so long ago, but (I'm) very lucky and very fortunate to be still in this great game. After I played 66 games straight and had a few injuries, I thought it was all over.

Our performance on the weekend wasn't anywhere near acceptable, but it was a good reminder and a good lesson to our blokes of the work-rate required at AFL level.

That's what I need to assess this morning but the blokes are buoyant; we're looking forward to this one.

It was trench warfare, it was arm to arm battle, it wasn't pretty stuff, it was fierce football and we came out on top. We ran out of luck last week and I thought we were due.

It must be said that not too many of us would be putting a dollar on 'Junior' McDonald kicking the winning goal, but he did the job. It was great.

The challenge now is how smart can you be moving the ball to go forward again.

I'm just disappointed for our supporters. The game was never a contest and that was the disappointing thing. To finish on that sort of note is the biggest disappointment for all Melbourne people because we weren't ever in the game.

I think you just need to go away and collect yourselves before you talk too much about the past and too much of the future.

It's really important to come into finals with momentum. We had more home and away wins last year but it means naught if you don't come into finals with momentum. Last year we came off four losses, this year we came off three super elimination-type finals atmosphere (matches).

The momentum we'll get from these close wins will drive us into next week against the Cats.
