Building on the great legacy of 'Nightline' as we go forward to the next era is both a challenge and an exciting opportunity.

Saying it's unsubstantiated from their point of view because they don't necessarily know who our sources are is not the same as saying it's wrong, is it?

We take this as good news, but the next few days will be critical.

As we have known, Doug is in somewhat better condition than Bob. But the doctors are pleased with how they came through the transfer.

Bob obviously arrived here in fairly serious condition but he stabilized very well here. According to doctors, he's doing well.

We have a long way to go. But it appears that we may have also come some distance.

We wanted to make sure we got back out into the field with our anchors, not just our correspondents, to do reporting. Because ultimately, it's all about reporting.

We all know there are substantial risks. At the same time, what we do is report the news. We report the stories such as Iraq, and it's a dilemma we struggle with all along because, frankly, we don't get to report as much in Iraq as we'd like to because of security.

Both Bob and Doug continue on their upward progress.

Doug was up and conversing this morning. Bob continues to be heavily sedated and may be for a time. But the doctors are encouraged by the continued progress he made overnight.

We remain committed to taking 'World News Tonight' forward with the two anchors that are required for what we want to accomplish. With Diane and Charlie, we can do just that as we wait until Bob can take his chair back.

Everyone was getting used to each other and we were hitting our stride and starting to see the promise of what this new anchor team could produce.

I told Elizabeth that during such a difficult time for all of us, it's good to get such wonderful, life-affirming news.
