They have the pieces. The thing is to come together. Not one guy has to do it every night. They don't have what the Yankees have -- the instant machine of guys who know how to win. We have to have the same swagger as the Yankees -- 'We know how to win.' That's the kind of attitude you need when you come to the ballpark. That's what it's all about.

I lived quite a few years down here. I know what hurricanes are like. I know what people go through. Some people lose everything. To see people have an opportunity to see people who really care, I think that's really special.

What I mainly do during the spring is spend time with our young players. I help them with their hitting and I instruct the outfielders. Working with the young guys is something I really enjoy. I'm trying to help them improve as baseball players. I'm also trying to help mentor them. I want them to avoid making the same mistakes that I've made.

I have a lot of regrets about what I've done. If I had to do it over again, I never would have left the Mets. I'm very thankful for all that Mr. (George) Steinbrenner did for me when I was with the Yankees, but I wish I had stayed in New York with the Mets.

Doc was better than Roger Clemens, ... Doc was more dominating. He was going to have a better career than Clemens.

We don't talk about the things that happened to us, ... If we didn't have some issues, I mean, what coulda been, coulda been.

And whenever Doc used to pitch,

I always think of how promising it was when me and Doc came up,

didn't want to make a public thing out of it.

It was a mistake on my part, ... I should have never loaned this guy my car to begin with. He's no longer my friend.

I'm not ashamed of who I am. Of course I'm ashamed of the things that have happened. But with life experiences, you're able to give back and help others.

We always thought we were the team to beat. We knew we had the talent to compete with anybody.
