It does matter. Not just to the U.S. Olympic Committee. It matters to the American public. It matters to our broadcast partners. Now, to us as an Olympic Committee, it is not the only thing that matters.

It was a friendly afternoon of sledding, and as I understand it he completed his run and fell off the sled.

We have asked that those cities interested in bidding for 2016 to just basically not become too active at this point. We've asked them not to start forming committees, developing logos or spending lots of money just yet. We are not telling them they can't speak about it.

We haven't made a decision about whether we would pursue a 2016 bid for the United States at this point.

If we go forward, we want to be certain that the city has an opportunity to be competitive. Given how the bid landscape has changed, we need to be certain before we ask any U.S. city to do all that is required in the bid process.

We have not yet made a determination how we will go forward with that position.

We do not believe that any such document exists.

This is a significant step. Our interest in the short term is in preserving opportunities for athletes to train and compete. In the long term, we want to see a governance and managerial structure that better serves the sport.

Our concerns would lie in two areas. One, the lack of communication with an athlete who ultimately will be affected by the outcome of an arbitration, and two, lawyers arguing over medals 14 months after the games are concluded is not good for the Olympic movement.

No one is being singled out. But the accumulated effect of letting that go unchecked would hinder the ability we have to do what we do.

By doing it this way, you have an opportunity to have a candid conversation with all those involved.

We have indicated to our athletes it is perfectly appropriate to wave the flag and when they do so they should wave it with pride and honor.

There should be absolutely no confusion about how a matter such as this is to be handled by a National Governing Body. We review the anti-doping protocols with our N.G.B.'s and we expect every N.G.B. to strictly comply with these protocols. We have made the leadership of the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation acutely aware of our concern over how this matter was handled.

In the long term, there is a direct correlation between the strength of the N.G.B.'s and the strength of the U.S. Olympic team.

These are very serious allegations. We will immediately begin to investigate these claims and if we determine there has been misconduct on the part of the coach, the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. This matter will receive immediate and complete attention.
