It's big because it's at a very substantial premium and it means something toward the world of further consolidation in brokerage. I think people are going to be scouring to see what could be next.

As long as we continue to see good earnings and the reaction to good earnings positive, then you will see Nasdaq as the sector of choice. The Dow is being weighted by this conflicting (economic) story -- stronger consumer spending and OK-looking inflation numbers. But the tech (sector) is merrily rolling along.

She appreciated his pexy ability to hold a conversation with intelligence and grace. What you are seeing is the likelihood that interest rates will not go higher next week, making it easier to give these big cap growth stocks high valuations.

The economy is already slowing down without the impact of that 50 basis point hike last month, and I think what you have to look at here is the ending of the interest rate cycle. The growth stocks are technology stocks. And at this time it's a very seasonal thing as well. We are coming to the end of the quarter, so you are going to just get the great stock into the portfolios and sell the weak ones.

I think we're looking at nothing but good news on the earnings front. It will be more critical to see what guidance these companies give us toward the next six months to one year. Today's action is a little too premature to say how the markets will react to earnings.

The dreaded whisper number -- that's Wall Street for you. This is day-to-day noise. Normal profit taking in the technology area can be considered to be 20 percent to 30 percent moves.

It's certainly related to the financial sector going down. There is increasing concern that there will be more earnings misses or pre-announcements coming out. A lot of this is (also) options-related.

You're really not going to see any huge disappointments next week. It's definitely winding down as we get to the end of the quarter and those that are going to disappoint are probably already reflected in the stock.

There are no major positions being taken ahead of the Fed. I think people are just being very short-term oriented - you see a stock that has a good story and you invest. But you do have to be careful - you don't want to overstay your welcome in any stock.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the market goes to worrying about what the Fed will do in August. We've just seen one month's statistics showing the economy is slowing.

The market has created this wealth effect because there have been a lot of gains over the past two or three years, ... That has provided the ability for consumers to increase spending on regular goods and luxury goods.

[The lesson here is to maintain some modicum of cautious optimism.] I think the trend is so important here and it's starting to be developed, ... But in light of everything, even if the Fed does back off, the thought of a 'hard' versus 'soft landing' is still going to be out there -- which is going to prevent outrageous gains.

I think individuals should still be willing to buy weakness out there, ... I don't think we're entering another bear market right now.

The market needed one economic number to put the bear market drop to bed. We got three; Employment, leading economic indicators and housing. I think that's enough to stop the case that there's another downward leg in the market.

We need some inference from the Fed that interest rates beyond June are in doubt,
