There continue to be elements that support Saddam Hussein. These are violent people. They governed Iraq with violence.

The president welcomes peaceful protests -- it is a time-honored tradition. The president agrees violence is not the answer in Iraq, and that's why he hopes Saddam Hussein will disarm.

I think time will tell. They both understand the president's message and the president's message is strongly that war doesn't serve either party.

I think it's part of ongoing efforts in a tense region, a region that remains tense and delicate, and a region that the president will remain personally engaged in and involved in. So, too, will his government.

All along, the United States has been concerned with the fact that the timetable to develop a test to protect the country on missile defense was bumping into the ABM Treaty. The bump was about to take place.

Under the old Senate leadership this would have already happened by now. So this will be a test of the new leadership. It will reflect badly if the Senate is unable to act by the end of the month.
