He probably took a gamble or two. It didn't work out.

It was, as they say in football, a good old-fashioned ass-kicking.

I never got to do it, so I'm very excited for them. I can tell you for sure it's exciting because in my 15 years, this time of year I was packing up my stuff to go home.

Well, who knows? He's probably not as ready as Peyton, who's been in it and done it six times now, or Tom Brady who's never lost a playoff game and done the ultimate thing. So who knows if you're ready? You just jump in with both feet.

I'm not saying that's a plus or a minus, it's just the way he is. But I assure you he's excited. And he's not going to change. He's going to be no different than he was when he went out against the Cardinals the first game or in Oakland Saturday night.

If you've watched Peyton play the last seven years, he hasn't been hit like that. It was the worst for Peyton since his rookie year (when Indianapolis went 3-13 in 1998).

Eli knows where he's at in his development and what stage he's at. He'll learn from his mistakes and try to correct them and build on the positives... He'll handle it. He's a little more even-keel than Peyton so he's been OK in New York so far.

Peyton's tough. I talked to him after the game. He's been through this before (the Colts are 3-6 in the playoffs under Manning). He'll be OK. He knows they just have to go back to work at it next year.

I never got close. Everybody just wants to get here, and I hope both of my boys get to do it.

I challenge each and every player in the National Football League to consider the impact they have just because they play the game of football, then go do something about it. There's more to the game.

I've been kept up to date by people in the league office ever since the storm. I take my hat off to the commissioner and the league for what they've done and what they're doing.

Those guys were my heroes. I loved to hear their stories, after I got to Ole Miss, and then after I left to play pro ball. I sit there and I listen to them, and I'm still like a little boy. Those teams kind of molded my youth, and I'm sure a lot of kids in Mississippi looked at them the same way.

We all would love to have such a rich life, with so many friends, but we all would like to be able to influence that many people, too. Coach Vaught is gone, physically, but he lives on, in each one of us, and in this university.
