Office 12 is a very, very nice package. If they were support ODF, they'd do very well just competing on technical merits of applications. It's very suitable for enterprises or other organizations that want to take a Java approach but don't want all the overhead that associated with higher-end commercial products, or the intricacies of enterprise Java beans or the more sophisticated J2EE features.

The product, via substantial abstraction, allows for less skilled developers to rapidly generate relatively sophisticated Web applications. The catch is that more experienced developers may find some of the abstraction unnecessary and/or undesirable.
