When you are facing a relatively talented pitcher, like we will in this league, you have to try and score runs any way you can. If we improve our hitting in terms of aggressiveness and pitch selection, we can be as good as any team in this league.

Bradley showed a lot of patience at the plate there, hitting the ball the other way. If you want to drive in runs in this league, you have to go the other way. Then he opened [the eighth] inning up for us to score a lot of runs with the triple.

Facing the Yankees 19 times a year, that lineup is so power packed -- even the eight hole and nine hole sometimes. It's tough to pitch to. It's mentally wearing on you as the game goes on. For me to be over here in the National League, just to have the pitcher in the nine hole, gives me a little bit of breathing room. I don't think there's any lineup in the National League that can compare with that one. For me, it feels like it's easier to get over the hump.

I know they've been going through a tough time. When you score some runs like that against probably the best pitcher in the league this year, it may have taken the wind out of their sails.

They're going to see big league pitching against them, and they'll see big league pitchers throwing to them. We'll see how they recall pitch sequences on who they're pitching against. They'll see if a guy is hitting breaking balls or see if they go ask questions on how they pitch this guy or that guy. Does a guy hit this -- what are his strengths or weaknesses. They have to pay attention because they're big in this equation.

The overall strength of the league is a subjective part of evaluation. When we go into the room, we're not concerned about league affiliations. Which league a team is in is not going to necessarily get a team in. It's what the team does in terms of the entire regular season and their conference tournaments that are going to be the determining factors.

What I'm trying to do and what I'd like to do is ease it on in there. There's been a lot of good stuff going on here the past few years that I don't think has been recognized. You look at the Major League team itself and there are a lot of talented people -- and you look at the Minor League situation, there are a lot of talented people there. It's a bit surprising. With the guys we have, yeah, you would think we'd be scoring more than [3.4] runs a game. In the American League, you've probably got to score six runs a game to win. In [the National League], maybe one run less.

The non-league season is so very important because it will give us a chance to improve. By the time league play rolls around, we should be in good shape. I'm liking this team more and more everyday.

Last year was a fluke. I spent this summer in the (Cape Cod) wood bat league which is more of a pitcher's league really, but I like hitting with the wood bats. It makes you center the ball and helps your swing.

In this league, you've gotta hang in there. You're going to face a good pitcher like that. We were just lucky to get a couple runs at the end. He got ahead of us, and was shutting us down. Maybe that's where some of the experience comes in; when one part of our team is down, another part rises a little bit.

I figured we had to score 10 to win both games, because they probably are the best-hitting team in the league.

A punch like that goes around the league in a hurry. But we have talked at length to him in the past about being a physical factor without just squaring off against the other team's tough guy and getting into a situation where teams are reacting to what he's doing on the ice in terms of who he's hitting and how hard he's hitting, and that's the role we've seen so far.
