We've got to make some free throws. We've shot ourselves in the foot time and time again at the foul line. We're getting 30 free throws per game. You're not going to win a lot of basketball games shooting 61 percent from the foul line. We've got to shoot it better in every phase.

Leon is really a highly competitive person. When he was struggling shooting free throws earlier in the year, he was getting up at 5 in the morning and going to a gym near his home and shooting free throws. Then he came up with a couple of 10-for-10 games, 10-for-12, 12-for-15. I think that's a testimony to who he is.

We had the game won and all of a sudden they shoot two free throws. You foul out your whole team and you're fighting on fumes after a nine-day road trip. For us to just hang around at that point was outstanding. For them to just be shooting free throws out of thin air, that killed us.

Free-throw shooting is a lost art. It's not as good as it once was, and maybe it is because coaches are limited with how much time they can dedicate to free throws in practice and kids don't really work on them on their own as much as they should. Foul shots aren't flashy, but they certainly win games, and we try to stress that to our guys. Especially at tournament time.

That's the difference in the games we've lost. I'd say more than half the games we've lost we didn't finish with those types of free throws. ... Today, hitting those free throws was the difference in the game. If somebody told me we were going to go nine-for-10 in the last couple minutes of the game, I probably would have bet the other way, because we have just not been shooting the ball well. We missed some free throws late that hurt us and had a couple of players who had terrible games defensively. We're not good enough to win tight games right now. We've got a few guys who aren't bothered by losing games, but it bothers me. I hate to lose.

Free throws will win you some games and lose you some games. Tonight, it won us a game.

The two games before [both won by BU] were crazy, ugly games, and we expected more of the same. The free throws were huge to overcome the mistakes we made at the end.

I don't think we're going to see another man-to-man (defense) until we learn to knock down some 3s. That's all we've seen the last four, five ball games. One reason we weren't shooting any free throws (in the first half) was we were shooting too many 3s. We told them to go to the hole.

We played one our better games of the year against a very tall and good shooting team. It really was closer than the score tells. They made some free throws at the end to build the lead.

We played better defense against them, but we just fouled them too much. Their two big guys went to the line for 30 free throws. The initial defense was good, but you can't foul them like that, and they hit a pretty good percentage of their free throws.
