Jefferson definitely dominated the first half. But my kids did not allow them to score, and our defense gave us an opportunity to win.

Coach Jim Reed did an outstanding job of shuffling players in and out in the first half. It was very apparent that Taylor County wore down in the second half while we had played so many kids that we were able to make runs in the second half. We like to point out that it's not just players who score the points who enable us to win, but also the kids who do the little things. But we do like the kids who can score as well.

When you find yourself down 21 after one half, that's a pretty big hill to come back from. However, I felt our kids battled all the way to the end and never gave in. The score ends up a little closer than it should have been, but that's a credit to our kids not giving up.

Our kids didn't quit. We talked at halftime and on our opening drive we go down and score. In the second half our defense held them to 47 yards of total offense. We came back in the second half, but we just came up a little bit short.

We didn't play very smart but defense stepped up in the second half. They moved the ball on us but we never gave up the big score.

The defense really stepped it up in the second half, bottled them up real well, and gave us a chance to move the ball and score a little bit.

If that happened, I'd be really disappointed in our team. We're playing against a team that really out-performed us a couple of weeks ago in Columbia. The final score says 6 points, but we were down by 15 in the second half, we were dominated in the game. I would hope our guys would be excited about having the opportunity to compete again and play again.

I like the effort our kids gave. Our guys played hard, but it got away from us in the second half. Still, I think it was closer than the final score indicated.

When you don't score, it doesn't matter how many runs you give up. We played very solid defense. We made a few mistakes here and there, but really, for the most part, our defense did a great job. Our hitting is going to come around. I'm very pleased with the effort the kids gave. They played hard.

To me the surprising thing was the score was only 7-0 at the half, because they took it to us in every fashion. I give our defense a lot of credit. We're a young team. We only have three starters back. So, I knew we would learn a lot about our guys in this game. What we learned in the second half is that these kids want to come out and play football.

The problem in the first half is that we didn't score a lot of points. We scored 14 in the third quarter and (23) in the fourth quarter ... Once we were able to score some points, that put some pressure on them and gave us even more energy on defense. To hold them to one third-quarter point, that's what made it outstanding.

We dominated most of the first half and the second but could not score.

In the second half, we played much harder and smarter. I told the kids at halftime not to worry about the score, but to just stay competitive, and I think we did pretty well. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. Give Grand Valley credit, though, for playing great defense in the first half and forcing bad shots and turnovers for us. They were very tough on us.
