The decision by the unions is unfortunate, but it clearly underlines the need for a level playing field. This affirms the need for a ban on smoking in all public places.

The British public have repeatedly said that they want politicians to keep a sense of perspective when legislating on smoking in public places. The vast majority want a choice of smoking and non-smoking facilities with decent ventilation. Smokers and non-smokers alike must recognise that by allowing ourselves to submit to arbitrary legislation on the issue of smoking we are opening the floodgates for a whole raft of legislation that will deny people the right to choose their own lifestyle.

Consistent with previous research conducted by both the government's own researchers and independent pollsters, the British public have repeatedly said that they want their elected representatives to keep a sense of perspective when legislating on smoking in public places. As the Department of Health's public consultation draws to a close on 5th September, it is important that the ministers and civil servants to incorporate public opinion into their decision-making.

This is such a good competition because it places emphasis more on academics rather than looks. It really is a more level playing field because of that.

There is no level playing field. Any time our society says that a powerful chemical company has the same right as a low income family that's living next door, that playing field is not level, is not fair.

We've got to level the playing field between the public and private sector.

The only way to keep a level playing field is to have full public financing.

If we decide we want 100%, then all public places, that includes restaurants, will be no smoking.

Our unions do a large amount of organizing in parts of the economy that historically and recently are places where people of color and immigrant workers have found jobs. Some of them are entry-level jobs. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. Throughout history immigrants have found work as janitors, and our unions have helped them raise families, send their kids to college, and that's been the American dream.

We're obviously disappointed in that this is a massive shift in terms of restrictions on smoking in public places. However, it could have been a whole lot worse.

According to my estimation based on a survey, nearly 600 million Chinese suffer from passive smoking, which occurs in 71 percent of Chinese households, 32.5 percent of public places and 25 percent of working places.

That way, we solve the problem of leveling the playing field. It would cover the urban area surrounding Springfield, and then in the outlying areas, out in the middle of the county, it could still be legal to smoke in public places.

The Health Bill will include a ban on smoking in enclosed workplaces and public places which will cover 99 percent of the workforce,

Patients that enroll in smoking cessation programs on their own are highly motivated to quit, but represent a very small portion of the smoking population. Using an existing health channel to reach smokers who vary in their motivation level to quit could have a significant public health impact.

I have tabled a motion to the upcoming NPC session, suggesting the State Council formulate regulations on smoking ban in public places as early as possible.
