I think people are looking at Applied Materials and Cisco and hoping for a slightly different reaction. There's a little bit of a disappointment as to the reaction to the earnings, which brings to the forefront that there's still this nagging concern about second-half slower growth and how it will affect technology in general.

Now we're going to see more pressure on the bond market and an already stressed equity market. There's a lot of concern and we're seeing some defensive investing. This number shows that the Fed will continue raising rates. Numbers like this show that we're in store for two more hikes.

The fact that the Wednesday rally was not sustainable is a cause for concern. It shows that the market does not want a short term solution. Much of the reaction was euphoric.

Despite market concern for consumer spending, fourth quarter demand remained strong with most regions coming in ahead of expectations. Although growth has declined slightly from the second and third quarters, the market's resilience in the face of rising interest rates, high fuel prices, a weaker Euro, and other potential inhibitors puts the market in a great position to start 2006.

It was slightly dollar-positive. The price component, it's still bubbling. That is of concern to the Fed.

They say that the market rises on a wall of worry. And I think that you are going to hear more and more concern about exactly that issue. [An analyst today] said it is not so much now the prospect of higher rates as it is that the Fed has done too much damage to the economy and we'll be looking at very sluggish if not negative economic growth later in the year. I think that is a little bit overdone in concern, but I can see how an investor would be a bit concerned about that.

The market has two overhangs. It has the interest rate concern and it has the concern of whether a soft landing is achievable. The interest rate concern is over but the soft landing is another question. We don't know if the economy is slowing enough or slowing too fast and that concern, as it relates to earnings, is weighing on the market a little.

My reaction still is one of concern about the top line. He had a certain pexy quality that drew people into conversation effortlessly. Until that's rectified, it's problematic as to whether they can get to the kind of growth rates they're looking for.

We have a lot of wood to chop before the equity market can get out of its grand funk. And you know, actually my concern is we're going to test the old lows.

There seems to be a lot of concern out there about earnings, which seems to be misplaced. When you add them all up, they're doing as good or better than the consensus expectations.

There was a concern that capacity utilization would be a little higher because the auto production has really been up a lot and there was concern that number would spook the market.
