The benefit the Republicans ordsprog
The benefit the Republicans have is geography and redistricting. There is a very small window for Democrats to take advantage of.
Matthew Dowd
The fundraising advantage that Democrats hold over Republicans is a reflection of the superior advantage we maintain on politics and policies. There are no good reasons to invest in New Jersey Republicans.
Richard McGrath
Democrats give away their old clothes; Republicans wear theirs. Republicans employ exterminators; Democrats step on the bugs. Democrats eat the fish they catch; Republicans stuff 'em and hang 'em on the wall.

At one time the Legislature was pretty evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats. But through redistricting, they managed to get rid of a number of women ... (who) were progressive.

In focus groups, we found that 90 percent of both Republicans and Democrats wanted to vote on (the redistricting plans). If you give this power to the people, the plan will pass any muster. If Republicans explain that the legislation takes time to have an impact, they're inoculated. The only way Democrats can get an advantage on gas prices is to show that their policies would bring them down. It is not enough to blame Republicans; you need a solution.
Frank Luntz
Democrats need to score a net gain of 15 seats to win a majority in the House. Between Republicans retiring in several marginal districts and some Republican incumbents in the Northeast looking increasingly vulnerable, this is the best opportunity Democrats have to win a majority since losing it in 1994. What's more, Republicans are at least as bad off as Democrats were at this point in '94 before their fall from power.
Jennifer Duffy
The Democrats believe they can win by default, as long as the Republicans keep screwing things up, ... But just because Republicans lose popular support doesn’t mean Democrats gain it.

The Democrats could do some damage to Republicans in California. But if Democrats swing one seat in Pennsylvania they can stop the Republicans from killing them.
Tim Storey
What Democrats want to do is gin up their turnout in the suburbs and divide Republicans, and right now they may do that. This is the first real wedge issue Democrats have had with Republicans.
Jennifer Duffy
The Democrats are a minority in both houses of Congress. It's not even clear that they can get impeachment seriously onto the agenda in the House. Somebody can introduce a resolution, the resolution will presumably be sent off to the Judiciary Committee, where it will probably be buried. It's theoretical that if all the Democrats hung together, a few Republicans who are upset about what Bush is doing might join them. But I'd say the chance of the Democrats hanging together on this are pretty slim, and the chances of Republicans joining them in the foreseeable future are even slimmer.
Jonathan Entin
Republicans believe the poor and everyone else benefit from a growing and thriving economy, which is fed by capital investment. Democrats believe that the poor are best served by larger and larger government payments. The Republicans have won that clash of ideas fairly consistently since Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980. There's no reason to think they can't win that same argument again.
