en The great thing about Baltimore is it becomes something you can form a long-term attachment to. When students go to France, for example, they go for a month, at most a year. But when you do a project in a local neighborhood, you can really make connections with and keep in touch with the people who live there. You can get deeply involved, as I think Angela did.

en What I see here are people beginning to take pride. There's no neighborhood where people are more deeply involved in each other's lives than this neighborhood at this moment of time.

When you put that together, you have something special.

en It's going to be important to start branding our effort 18 months to a year out and try to get fans of all ages involved. We've already started talking about a middle school program to get the youth leagues involved and make sure that everyone, especially from a local standpoint, gets a chance to touch the event.

en To make it all work was a challenge. It was one of the most intensive civil engineering projects, in terms of residential housing, that I've ever been involved with. ... en Clearly he knows a lot of people in this town, and he'll help people in the education of the Bridges, but that's not the only reason we hired him, at all. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness. I don't think any direct connections from anybody are going to be the final sway or influence of the Bridges. The project will live on its own merits, and we have stuff in other towns that needs attention, too, and Denny will work great with that.

en I don't want to make this a racial thing, but it's significant. I am very, very deeply honored to be involved with the rest of these guys in this great fraternity.

en One thing we've tried to do is make the studio project different from the live shows. It's a different side of the band. Live, we do a lot of improvisation, we're all over the place. On the album we tried to keep things concise. A lot of people will think it's a curve ball. It's not what you would expect if you are familiar with our live show.

en I was friends with Gilby when he was in a band called CANDY — we go back for years and years. We live in the same neighborhood and we have always been in touch. In 1990, we did a tour together with a bunch of people called THE WILD BUNCH . We stayed in touch and he was actually the first person I asked to help me. I trusted him to be supportive. If it sounded bad then I wouldn’t be too embarrassed. Gilby is a great guy and I respect his input. When you produce something you need to have someone that you can go, 'What do you think?' There is an old joke that says, 'What makes a great producer?' The answer is, 'I don't know. What do you think?' I was one of those producers who needed reassurance.

en There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.

en Precinct caucuses are a great way to get involved at the grass-roots level. They help form the foundation for local and active involvement among Democrats this year as we get into the 2006 campaign season.

en We had a long discussion. I have always said the French team is the most important thing that has happened to me. I thought deeply about it and I want to play for France again.

en Retaining talented students is vital to the competitiveness of our region. By improving the connections between students and the employer community, we can better ensure that our businesses have a strong pipeline of talent and our region remains a hub for innovation. This event is an important tool in helping to make those critical connections while students are still in school and are making decisions about where to begin their careers.

en We have speakers each month, but the real thing is to get people involved who are interested in looking into their ancestry and helping the historical society preserve records into a usable form. Hopefully we are meeting the needs of these people and the society as well.
